They claim that a Rotary Transformer Phase Converter can supply three phase power to motors from single phase power input. Other phase converters do the same but Jack claims their RTPC can make motors do more work output from less electrical power input. Claims that 400 watts to motor can do 3000 watts of work or that 110 VAC 9 amps (1 KW) can power the RTPC along with three phase motors 3 (5) HP air compressor, 1 (2.5) HP drill press and arc welder putting out 100 amps, all running under load at the same time. But Jack has NOT shown proof of his claims. This is just cut and pasted from many email messages Jack has sent. It’s hard to figure out who says what but I tried to put comments by others to Jack in italics. Note the long list of e-mail addresses Jack sends his rants to, most do NOT want it.

I have hundreds of letters from Jack. In brief he claims that
Infinite Energy sent Ken Rauen out to inspect and measure
the Rotary Transformer Phase Converter that converts single phase
power to three phase to run industrial motors.  Jack's claim is that
only 400 watts of input power is needed for a 3 HP motor doing the
work of 5 HP on air compressor.

It's not clear whether the 3 phase power to the motor on the
air compressor was measured or the input power to the RTPC.
Ken Rauen wrote that he might have connected the leads
from the Amprobe Data Logger to the wrong phase leads for
current and voltage to the air compressor motor but never got a
chance to double check his tests because Jack and Wayne talked
so much. Ken mentioned that he measured 208 volts and 2.2 KW
on the 12 gauge wire and that the power factor to the motor
was very low and current wasn't balanced on all three phase wires.

We think it might be possible that bad measurements or whatever
could account for the discrepancy and that Wayne had 220 VAC
on that 12 gauge 2 conductor wire instead of 110 VAC. But
the Electrical Code calls for three conductor with ground or Red,
Black, White, Ground for 220 VAC circuits, but code also says
only 20 amps on 12 gauge wire. SO it would seem that following
National Electrical Code was not important to Wayne.

Jack also claims that only 110 VAC and 9 amps input power is needed
to run the "5 HP" motor on air compressor and "2.5 HP" motor
on drill press along with an arc welder set for 100 amps output.
(Lincoln 250 amps "three phase" arc welder, is what Jack said)
So in other words 1000 watts input power is doing 3730 + 1865
+ 2 KW (est) = 7600 watts of work. With 220 VAC and 30 amps
 circuit breaker, the maximum input power could be 6600 watts.
 A big difference from the "1000 watts" claimed by Jack for full load.

Now Jack has never been able to change the
"30 amps screw in circuit breaker" to 15 amp slow blow fuse
on the 12 gauge 2 conductor "house wire" used to send power
to the garage. Jack has never connected a generator to the
alleged 5 HP (3730 watts) motor and used the 3000 watts
of output power to run other loads. Jack has never proven all the
equipment; 5 HP air compressor, 2.5 HP drill press and arc welder
set for 100 amps output will all run powered by small 1000 watt
gasoline generator. Jack makes some claims about "unused frequencies"
and "wasted kinetic energy" in the grid supplied power providing
the "extra efficiency." The RTPC would have to double the voltage
for the arc welder while doubling the amperage also. That is
truly amazing for a "transformer". I repaired and tested transformers
at a small shop several years ago so do understand how they work.

It seems Jack or Wayne never did do any testing to verify their
claims. We believe Jack took it upon himself to exaggerate what
Wayne had told him. Rotary Transformer Phase Converters are
not a "new invention". Basically take a three phase motor and
supply single phase power to 2 of its power wires. Then if you
get the motor spinning with another motor it will remain running
at reduced power, but will supply three phase power using the
open terminal also to other motors in parallel with it. You can
also start a three phase motor using single phase power and
a motor starting capacitor to the open phase wire. My brother
has a passive phase converter in his shop to run an Bridgeport
mill with three phase motor. But there are no claims of amazing
"efficiency" Jack claims.

Jack has made claims of permanent magnets doing work, atomic
power in 5 gallon bucket, crash proof passenger compartment,
self contained power source for cars, etc. All of those technologies
are from someone else but Jack never can give us exactly who and
where we could verify the claims. Jack talks about the Russian
"science" magazine www.faraday.ru but it's more of "pseudoscience"
then science. The did print picture of Jack on front cover several
months ago. But Alexander Frolov, the editor,  never got any
information from Jack about "Confidential Technology" that was
worth publishing.

Jack now claims they are designing a Gravity Drive using CAD CAM
and that the Rotary Transformer Phase Converter is obsolete along
with the DC to AC self charging system, etc. Why would "electric
current without ElectroMagneticField", be good to run motors
since the EMF is what makes motors work?
Amazing how kooks can just keep switching from one idea/machine to
another without EVER proving the previous idea/machine works. ;-)
 
Jack has "promoted": Atomic power in a 5 gallon bucket, "crash proof"
passenger compartment for cars, medical diagnosis and cure scanner,
alternative clean energy for cars, permanent magnet motor but it had
to be disassembled because it caused genetic damage. Allegedly
that is why Wayne got cancer and died several years later. Along
with being poisoned by American Axle, etc.
 
I'm sure everyone on the wastewatts mailing list would like a RTPC
IF it worked as claimed. ;-) 400 watts input power does 5 HP of
work according to Jack. But Jack never even changed the "30 amp
screw in circuit breaker" to 15 amp slow blow fuse, even though
claim is only 9 amps needed at full load. Nor has Jack ever connected
a generator to the alleged 5 HP motor on air compressor and used
the 3000 watts of electric power it should make, for other loads.
 
I have NEVER found anyone that endorsed Jack's claims. He likes
to brag but nobody actually believes him. Jack has NEVER demonstrated
anything to experts who have carefully measured it yet. I don't believe
Jack actually has a RTPC in his possession at this time so he can NOT
demonstrate it. Wayne built a couple dozen RTPC supposedly.
 
Ken Rauen from Infinite Energy said he only had 20 minutes
to actually try testing the RTPC in Wayne's garage. He might have
gotten the phase connected wrong between the voltage leads and
current sense leads, but never got a chance to double check. Jack
and Wayne talked so much. Ken did say that the power factor was
very low and not balanced current on all three phases.
 
It seems RTPC is just a three phase motor that they get to run from
single phase power input, then it supplies three phase power to other
motors in parallel. Three phase motors can be run from single phase
power if you get the motor spinning first with another motors or
something. OR you can use a motor starting capacitor from one
of the two power leads that have single phase power applied
and connect it to the open phase lead, until the motor gets started.
 
Wayne Cochran worked at American Axle auto parts plant in Flint, MI.
I chatted with Wayne once on the telephone a year ago. He had some
strange ideas about bacteria can change rusty iron into copper and
measurement
units have changed over the years. A mile is shorter now or something
like that.
 
I did call Jack's wife once and asked about the RTPC and she got Jack
on the telephone. So guess there is someone who can put up with Jack. ;-)

Jack has a cellphone, so that's the best way to talk to him if you want
more entertainment. But use a calling card so he can't get your telephone
number. You certainly do NOT want Jack calling you.
Not nice to bother Jack's wife, etc. The other people associated
with Confidential Technology or Jack Carey deserve some privacy.

We have tried reasoning with Jack Carey for over a year. I'm
the "Eric clone" that saw the RTPC at the Dennis Lee show
back in August 11 2001. But didn't pay too much attention
after 5 hours non stop nonsense from Dennis Lee. ;-)

Besides there was a Kohler diesel generator out back
behind the hotel conference room that powered all the equipment
Dennis Lee demonstrated. I just used a clamp-on ammeter and
measured 60 amps on all three phase wires to the Baldor 20 HP
motor that drove the Sundance generator. By their own tests
it was only 75% efficient but they claim the Baldor 20 HP three phase
motor is only 75% efficient and their Sundance Genertor 100%. ;-)

So one more claim that was made by Wayne Cochran for his
Rotary Transformer Phase Converter was ignored.

I also got response back from Alexander Frolov, editor or
www.faraday.ru magazine that published Jack's picture on
cover. They never got any information worth publishing from Jack.
Dr. Carlton Speck of Delphi Automotive never showed any sign
he believed Jack either. Jack just sent copy of reply from Dr. Speck
where he said, "please contact our other department with more
details and patent information, etc." Basically saying, "go bother
someone else" is the way I interpreted it.

We have tried reason with Jack or John R Carey of
Burton MI (next to Flint) for over a year. First off there is
NO proof of any of his claims. So why bother trying to explain
something that has no evidence it's true? Jack only allegedly
quotes test results from Ken Rauen of Infinite Energy. But
Infinite Energy never published a story about Confidential
Technology or the Rotary Transformer Phase Converter
that Jack "promotes".
 
Ken Rauen of Infinite Energy magazine doesn't want to be
bothered with Jack any more. He did say that the lights seemed
to stay bright with all the equipment running, but Ken also
wrote that he tested 208 VAC 2 KW on the 12 gauge
wire in Wayne's garage using Amprobe Data Logger.
So it's possible Wayne had 220 VAC on that 12/2 Romex Wire,
even though that is not National  Electric Code approved, but neither
is 30 amp "screw in circuit breaker" on 12 gauge wire, that is rated
for 20 amps. So that would be 220 VAC at 30 amps = 6600 watts  possible,
and the 30 amp breaker might not trip until more than 30 amps.
 
The Russian magazine did put Jack's picture and his Mustang
Saleen Cobra on cover last year for some reason, www.faraday.ru 
But Alexander Frolov the publisher never got anything worthwhile
to publish from Jack. 
I assume you saw www.electrifyingtimes.com and searched for
old article they published on "confidential Technology". That's
the late Wayne Cochran in the picture next to air compressor.
 
The other problem is that the alleged "inventor", Wayne Cochran,
died of cancer in December 2002.
 
Jack KNOWS NOTHING, so any technical questions are
a waste of time. Jack has NOT been able to get one reliable
local electrician to verify his claims. Nor has Jack allowed
Mott Community College in Flint to test it, but he keeps saying
they will "soon", since September 2002. Apparently now
Marlene of "Confidential Technology" says Jack does NOT
work for or represent the company and asked him to stop.
 
In brief Jack claims: The RTPC will power 5 HP motor on
air compressor and only use 400 watts. But Jack can't connect
a generator to that 5 HP (3730 watts) motor and use the 3000
watts of electrical power generated for other loads. Jack claims
that 110VAC 9 amps can power the RTPC and 5 HP air compressor,
2.5 HP drill press and arc welder putting out 100 amps all at the
same time under full load. Now just the arc welder specifications
for Lincoln 225 amp is 230 VAC and 50 amps input for full output
and 70 VAC open circuit voltage. So figure 230 VAC 20 amps
input required for 100 amps output. Amazing "transformer" that
can double the voltage AND the current or four times the power!
 
As you noted, perhaps the circuit can "fool" the KWhr meter but
it is still "stealing" power and the power company does NOT have
to give you power into any type of load, or at least they will make
you PAY for it. ;-) Jack claimed the RTPC used to blow up electric
utility company's power transformers. I'm sure they won't install
a new one unless you paid for it then. Now sure transformers do
fail on occasion but they would get suspicious if it happens twice.
I used to work at shop repairing distribution transformers.
 
Jack has never powered the RTPC and all that equipment using
1000 watt gasoline engine powered generator, even though it
should work if only 110 VAC 9 amps is needed. Nor has he
run his home using only 400 watts input and 3000 watts output.

I never bothered to test the alleged RTPC. If I happened to getto Flint, could stop by. As we have told you many times, just connect a generator to the motor doing 3600 watts of work from only 400 watts input and use that to power your home. Should be able to get 2800 watts or so output from the generator while only using 400 watts. That is seven times more "efficiency" than the linear world.

 

Show us the RTPC running from a small 1000 watt generator or from 1000 watt inverter, while powering the three phase " 3600 watt" motor on air compressor and "1800" watt motor on drill press and Lincoln arc welder set for 100 amps all running under load at same time. Just run the inverter from a car battery while charging it from the generator. That should keep it going if only 400 watts is needed by motor & generator producing 3000 watts. Or use a separate battery to keep charged and switch them when needed. That way the  electron flow without EMF or "wasted kinetic energy" or "unused frequencies" in the electricity won't know that you are using them over again. Or do you have to hide one battery out of sight so that the electricity can't see it? :-)

 

But Jack, in all this time you can't do that. You still pay a big electric bill don't you?

 

(Lots of people claim "overunity efficiency" but can't do the simple test of closing the loop so that it powers

itself from the excessive output. )

 

I did chat with Electrifying Times for a few minutes once.

They said the power factor from RTPC was very low and phase current was not balanced to the three phase motors. Seems like possible measurement errors could account for your misunderstanding of total power input and output.

 

Why don't you get someone else that Eric knows to test or build an RTPC? There is a motor expert who built most

of Joseph Newman's "energy machine" that Joe took off with before testing was done. Look up the Norm Biss story at www.phact.org/e/skeptic  for details. Why aren't you selling RTPC through the motor distributor in Flint?

 

Eric or I don't work on motors much, but we understand the concepts. Motors are tricky to wind,  usually the coils are preformed to fit in the slots then all connected together and glued in place, insulation added, etc. Eric knows experts who do build and design motors.

 

So far all we have seen or read is Jack's rants. Nobody else seems to support your claims. Where is the webpage with details of the test results, etc?

If MOTT tests the RTPC, we want to see REAL test results, not what YOU make up. Reminds me of practical joke I heard about at machine shop. When the inspector came in someone would ask  for a micrometer, they would throw it across the room and bounce it off the wall then pick it up and measure something. Until we see test results that I personally do or from MOTT or someone I could trust, we don't believe you Jack. We have pointed out obvious tests if it worked as claimed. Your  analogy of increased gasoline mileage is NOT correct since it's well known how to get better gasoline mileage: increased engine efficiency, less weight, better gearing, lower rolling or wind resistance, etc. But those don't "break" the laws of physics that your claim of 400 watts doing 3600 watts of work does. Prove it by getting 3000 watts from a generator connected to the alleged 3600 watt output motor while it uses only 400 watts input power.

Using your claim that it's like increasing gasoline mileage would be tested by connecting 1 gallon gas can to your
car and proving it could go 60 miles or more. For electric power the analogy is not exactly the same since electric power is rate of doing work. You need to demonstrate more work done with one Kilowatt hour. But since you can't change a fuse, we doubt you understand anything about testing. :-)

Just look at Jack Carey's rants about the RTPC. Allegedly uses only 400 watts to motor that supplies 3600 watts of work.

But try to ask Jack to change a fuse from 30 amps to 15 amps but he won't. Ask him to prove the RTPC can run from 1000 watt generator while powering 3 HP and 1 HP motors and arc welder putting out 100 amps, all while using only 110 VAC single phase 9 amps input. Ask Jack to power a generator from the alleged 3600 watts output
motor to get about 3000 watts while using only 400 W.

HE fixes broken VCR's and TV's as long as they are around he has a job you on the other hand deal in theory as Bob Park does also correct? if your theories totally change and you do not understand them then you have a serious problem correct? if there is new totally different electrical theories and we do not disclose them because we can provide visual demos that prove them so it is not necessary to disclose them

then there is possibly no solution for your problem except possibly flipping hamburgers that i can see unless you can fix VCR's and TV's as TED DOES what can you do other than talk about theory? which is what EE types only do correct? whereas ME's work with mechanical situations not theory

REPLY the more advanced 110 to 3 phase is not being shown now you had your chance and did not take it over the last 14 months the less advanced 220 to 3 phase PRE PRODUCTION unit will only be shown at MOTT we have a large possible involvement group flying in when it does go to mott for testing but may wait until after W's grim illness outcome is decided i'm not sure when that will be at this point plus dennis will have to wait now to naturally the illness was not planned RC CAN VERIFY he talked to W in the hospital

Why can't you just scan and convert those documents from Infinite Energy to text with text recognition software available for most scanners? Then you could post it on the Internet, or even just a scan that is readable as a picture type file will work, but text is easier to edit and smaller file size.

These latter statements, as I said earlier, are borderline (or perhaps actually) libelous: A. They are not true. B. You have no evidence to support them. C. The tonality is such that it could be proved in court, if necessary, that you are using vituperative language against someone to feed your own passionate hatred of that which you most certainly do not understand, i.e. truly frontier science and technology investigation - which I am doing and you are not.

Don’t worry, at least for now, I have no intention of taking you to court over anything, but I have every intention of working with true scientists and truth seekers to make sure that history will record your bigoted maggotry for what it is. Your comeuppance will happen in due course.

As for Jack Carey, there is no need to reply to his mouthings. By the way, Infinite Energy’s role in investigating the invention of Wayne Cochran is clear: Our laboratory Manager Kenneth Rauen went for part of a day to see what he could see of that work in Michigan. No firm conclusions could be drawn in that limited time, although he saw some unusual things which he reported to us. But when Ken returned, he and MIT-trained engineer Jan Roos were able to build a system in our lab to show that, indeed, Wayne had a very novel method for converting 2-phase AC to three phase AC. NO overunity was measured in our lab on that system, which was made from our components per Wayne’s instructions, but we were then told that a modified component was needed to show the even more unusual effects. That new investigation was not to happen, because later Jack Carey intervened and got in the way of our further investigation by uttering the torrent of internet garbage that he has produced since then. It is too bad that we could not have worked with Wayne directly to determine whether or not he had some truly remarkable systems. As long as Jack Carey is in the loop, this will obviously be impossible. Still, I do hope that someone is able to help Wayne Cochran out - IF he has something truly special. The whole affair has degenerated to a farce, with “Idiot” Carey battling (Krieging) it out on the internet with micro-mind, science bigot Krieg.

I'm sure Eric Krieg is sorry to make comments against you. After dealing with the likes of Jack Carey, and other crackpots it's easy to loose civility.

The point about modern physic's "laws" is that they seem to work 99.99 % of the time. Perhaps there are some things that work slightly different, then the theories would need to be modified, but apples didn't fall UP from Isaac Newton's head when Einstein published the Theory of Relativity.

 

It's good to see you respond to all the claims Jack has made about Infinite Energy magazine testing and allegedly verifying Jack's claims about "efficiency" of the RTPC. Measuring AC power accurately can be difficult when there are strange wave forms and low power factor or phase shift between current and voltage, etc. But we kept asking Jack for simple tests to verify his claims and he refused. Like changing the fuse from "30 amp screw in circuit breaker" on the 12 gauge wire to Wayne's garage that powers the RTPC, air compressor, drill press, arc welder, etc. to 15 amp slow blow fuse. Jack claims only 10 amps is required at full load with all that equipment running. We asked Jack if the RTPC and equipment would run from a 1000 watt 1.8 HP generator, since he claims only 110 VAC 9 amps is needed, but he refused. We asked why a generator could not be connected to the "3600 watts output" motor on the air compressor that allegedly uses only 400 watts, so that it would produce 3000 watts of electricity from only 400 watts input power. It seems to me that 3000 watt is more than 400 watts. So there should be enough power to feed back to the input of RTPC and keep the whole thing running after it got started or at least you could power the rest of your home and save 86% on your electric bill.

It does seem strange that Wayne is such a recluse that nobody could directly contact him and he allowed Jack Carey to "promote" his ideas.

PS. "2 phase" power with 90 degree phase shift or whatever has been obsolete for several years from what I read. It's not "2 phase" electricity used in most of the USA but three phase for industrial and single phase for residential. Specifically 240 VAC center tapped secondary with the center tap connected to ground/neutral in most homes. That gives two 120 VAC circuits with 180 degree phase shift between the two sides so that as one leg is going negative the other is going positive and there is 240 VAC potential between the two sides.

I repaired those distribution transformers several years ago. ;-)

Similar idea is used for "bridged output" on audio amplifiers especially those used for car stereos. Two audio output amplifier stages are used for each speaker with the signal 180 degrees or pi radians phase shift between the outputs so that more power to the speaker can be sent from a low voltage source, 12 VDC. BUT remember that the speaker leads are NOT grounded on the negative to the speaker but should be connected directly to the speaker.

What was not caught on tape was my concern that the matching of the current probes over the motor leads were improperly phased with the voltage probes for that 3 phase motor.

The current probes were

matched to voltage probes by motor winding resistance measurements, which at 0.3 ohms typical measurement, a bad connection with my meter probe for resistance could have given me bad data for selecting the proper winding to match the correct current probe with its voltage probe. Wayne was not concerned as the results fit his expectations, but I was not certain of my measurement.

He then disconnected the converter and ran just a 1kW, 110VAC single phase arc welder and the fluorescent lights almost went out when Wayne struck an arc. I am confident of these visual effects as being anomalous; I am not sure of the quickly-done Amprobe power measurements. I regret I did not push you guys to give me more time to repeat the measurements and be sure of the phasing of the compressor motor, as you have turned this into very distorted bad press for me and dubious press for yourself.

Ken Rauen was commenting that perhaps the current probes from the Amprobe data logger might not have been connected to the same phases as the voltage probes. Since that is way beyond your understanding Jack it's hard to explain.:-)

In brief you have three wires supplying power for three phase power. 120 degrees difference in phase between the wires. If one wire was at 0 degrees or the zero crossing point  of a sine wave the other phases are at 120 degrees and 240 degrees. Each wire has AC voltage on it and carries current. Depending on how the circuit is wired,  the voltage between the wires or phase to phase and each wire to neutral/ground can be different. A "watt meter" has to measure the voltage AND current simultaneously to get true WATTS not just "volt-amperes". So it's possible that the voltage sense leads where not connected to same phase as the current leads, that would cause bad readings.

I've got an old Weston single phase watt meter that reads up to 150 VAC and 5 amps or 750 watts. Now if I'm not careful how I wire the series current sense terminals and the voltage terminals the meter could read negative. That doesn't mean the load is supplying power, it's just the meter connected wrong. With three phase power it's more difficult to get all the leads wired correctly and mistakes can happen easier.

One point Jack is that it was the three phase power from the RTPC to the air compressor motor that Ken Rauen measured. Possible measurement error showed reading of 400 watts into the motor. BUT that doesn't matter to your electric bill. It's how much single phase power is used by the RTPC powering all of the motors and arc welder that matters. So the single phase input power to RTPC should be measured first.

You made many claims Jack about how the RTPC is "more efficient" and could supply more heat than "linear theory" says that 1 KWhr = 3412 BTU, so that people would save on their heating bill by using electricity. But if only 400 watts output from RTPC than that is not much heat. You also mentioned once that the RTPC used 2.4 amps at 120 VAC without any load, so that would be 480 Volt-Amperes wasted by RTPC when no three phase motors or arc welder is running from the output of RTPC.

only 400 watts.  The drill press motor doesn't use much power just spinning with no load.

Are you saving money

by using the RTPC? It seems that the power to run the RTPC only works from grid supplied electricity or in other words something that can supply a lot of power. 110 VAC * 30 amp circuit breaker = 3300 watts. It could be wired 220 for 6600 watts.

I gave you catalog numbers from Northern Tools for gasoline generators and a generator head that is made to connect to a 5 HP engine, or you could connect it to the alleged 5 HP motor on air compressor and get 3000 watts of electricity. You claim only 400 watts input power is required, so your electric bill could be lower.

When will Mott Community College actually test the RTPC? Why won't you let them test it? I agree that it would be nice for our educational system to foster more creative thinking.  I think the current system is very standardized because it is easier for the teachers to teach "facts" to a large group without having to take the effort to nurture creativity in some individuals.

            iT IS  sometime in 2020 and we are all  driving Hydrogen powered autos and thinking we are not polluting with pressurized tanks because the auto CO wanted to keep the filling station in the loop for control purposes that emit water vapor which is bad enough because it causes acid rain which we were not told and I'm approaching the golden gate bridge from the north in heavy morning traffic in a dense fog and at the same time my friend is approaching the free bridge in NYC so as to enter Mid town and he is in heavy fog and traffic also

 

and there is an accident in both situations up ahead of us and the hydrogen system in both situations is ruptured plus because of the fog there is a pile up and other systems are ruptured also and the elerical systems in just one the wreaked auto causes a spark to happen  what happens then  an explosion  then  chain reactions which is explosion after explosion occurs because all the autos are close together in traffic for many miles because they are basically at a stand still   

 

Result is something that makes 911 look like a walk in the park AND basically two citys are basically wiped off the map when as now it would be a minor pile up accident big difference   and naturally the car CO's are then put out of bus by the insurance CO.s  because they told you your hydrogen auto was safe    

 

another case in point Genisis wants to make Hydrogen then store it in pressurized tanks  what happens if a sever lighten storm happens or a tornado or a hurricane or an earthquake and home systems get ruptured  It is great ystem for population control or getting rid of drunk drivers  HELLO IS ANYONE THERE?  NO NOT AFTER something of that magnetude happens  WILL YOU PEOPLE WAKE UP ? Besides Jack, we read about hydrogen already on newsgroups like sci.energy.hydrogen and www.tinaja.com with links to NASA website about hydrogen safety. If you read some of the hydrogen information on Don Lancaster's website,  www.tinaja.com you would know that hydrogen has a low energy for volume. It's hard to put big enough hydrogen tank on your car to get a couple hundred miles range. Hydrogen is good for energy per mass so it's used in rocket ships but it's bulky and dangerous to store.

Test #7 (12/26/02)

Test was set up to run 20 hours in back country areas with two riders that would be consistent with the type of terrain that a normal ATV would encounter. Test would include hills, steep grades, rocks, heavy brush, water, mud, deep wooded areas and more. Every hour a test of the batteries would be made to establish state of charge on the all electric ATV by two separate inspectors. Wire and tape seal was placed on the charging device to insure no tampering was attempted.

Total Hours: 11 hours 1 minute. Verified by radio communication Atomic Clock, wrist watch and stop clock
Battery at start of run: 41.7 volds DC on 36 volt DC system. Battery test after completion of run was 41.6 volts DC Specific Gravity test on each battery cell read in high good range at start of test. Specific Gravity test read same as start after completion of test. Battery load tested on all batteries in good range before and after run. (used Fluke 336 meter, a Temperature Compensated Specific Gravity meter, and Fluke heavy battery load test meter)

Comments: (David J. Preston) I fully expected this to flop. I have been in Robotics for 15 years and know nothing runs on a battery very long. Every test I did produced extraordinary results. Batteries continued to stay at full charge after this long run. It seemed to keep going and going. Did not notice any heat problems at the speeds we ran. Most of the speed was slow as we could not go full speed in the rough areas. I was tired after many hours bouncing in the woods. I simply can not explain my surprise. It almost scares me to think what this can do for the world. I have never experienced anything such as this in my life. It works. I have not the slightest idea how it works but it works thus far.
Returned to Tilley Building at 5:01 p.m. (total 11 hours 1 minute out) as we decided to finish test up tomorrow. Thomas is still completing his calculations of his part of the test and will combine the total at the end of the 20 mile [did he mean 'hour'?] run tomorrow.
We allowed "no one" to get near the ATV. The building was locked with Mr. Kindreed, myself and the ATV along with a [sic] armed security guard posted inside and one security guard posted outside the building. Food was delivered to use along with sleeping bags so we could spend the night in the building. No one else was allowed in or out. Miserable night be we were dry and warm. "No" batter charger or any other charging device was put to the ATV.

Test #8 (12/27/02)

Eighth test was the final 8 hours and 59 minutes taht remain on the all electric 20-hour ATV test. Approximately 8 hours of testing would be in the same area as test # 7. Then return to the shop for testing battery condition. The last hour was set for rough all out full throttle run in the woods under extreme conditions to see how the frame and construction would hold up. Again the batteries would be tested. Two riders would be on the ATV at all times.

Comments: Test conclusive. Every test was complete with flying colors. Specific Gravity test before and after run remained in the very good range. Voltage never dropped below 41.5 Volds DC for the 36 volt DC system. Each battery test remained consistent with a fully charged system. Driving lights on the ATV were used for two hours from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. Battery tested full after running and lights on. Very cold in these woods. Temperature was 23 degrees [F]. Ground was frozen until around 10 a.m. then it got extremely muddy. I admit I did everything I could to drain the batteries down. I was tough on this machine. Nothing I did seemed to slow it down except one steep bank we almost flipped the ATV. Seat belts are recommended. This machine never left my sight during the two day test. I am more than impressed at this vehicle. Extremely impressed with the Tilley group being open and straight forward and allowing us to have full control of testing anyway we wished. Carl Tilley is not what I expected a man of his intelligence to be. He is down to earth and the salt of the earth. I real nice person. In conclusion I must say it did what they said it would do. I am going to have many sleepless nights thinking how this test has changed my thinking of electrical systems and its applications.

Last Test with a 1 hour and 20 minute run by Bell South engineer David Huffaker. David is a serious hunter in his off duty times. His experience is from a engineer and hunter prospective.

Comments: Takes weeds and Brush well. Needs seat belts. For the average sportsman this will do just fine. Strong, sturdy machine. Good clearance. Climbing ability good. Takes to mud very good.

and see exactly what they say and tested. 20 hours is pretty good but not proof. Besides that "ATV" looks more like a  golf cart with no suspension, etc. What is the current used by the 36 volt motor? How many HP? It should be easy to measure the current with automotive type ammeter
and see whether the batteries are charging or discharging so that you can find the load point where the Tilley Charger supplies all the current needed.

When Tilley can get real proof by running a generator and "Tilley Charger" for extended period of time providing a few KW, then it will be better.

Should be easy to connect

the Tilley Charger with a belt and pulley to the motor and alternator providing 120 VAC power from battery bank while keeping the batteries fully charged. It should not require very big batteries since they are allegedly charged continuously by the Tilley Charger device. So just use marine/RV batteries instead of the golfcart batteries that are probably in the "Tilley ATV" now. Should also be able use NiMH or NiCad instead of lead acid.
