Yes, that is why it used to be called the north seeking pole of the earth, because
they didn't assume it was a south pole all they said is that seeked or attracted a
north pole.

no, the one pointing to the geographic north is the north pole of a magnet.
better jet go to a magnet shop, and get some toy magnets that have north and south
written on them, or get some wire and make a coil to verify, A few books I have come
across even deal with the subject.
