Text: Edgar Cayce Readings, 538-59 READING 538-59 F 59 (Housewife, Protestant) This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 19th day of October, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [ 538 ], Active Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc. Present: Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Time: 11:00 to 11:25 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. TEXT GC: You will have before you the entity [ 538 ], born February 22, 1880, in Hopkinsville, Ky., who now seeks enlightenment and expansion upon her Life Reading given March 7, 1925; especially in relationship to any outstanding urges from material sojourns affecting her life during this period. If there is any particular incarnation affecting her life that was not mentioned in her Life Reading, you will give it, and the urges to be met in the present. If not, then you will give a biographical life of the entity as Normaline, daughter of Socrates in Greece, - from entrance, and how, into the earth's plane, and the departure, giving the development or retarding points in such an existence as they relate to the present application. You will then answer the questions which may be submitted. EC: Yes, we have the records of that entity now known as [ 538 ]; also the information which has been indicated as to the appearances in the earth, and the activities in these. As we find, and as we have indicated, the greater influences and activities have been and are in relationships to those sojourns of the entity through the Egyptian experience and in the "city in the hills and the plains." In each of these we find, from the material sojourns, those activities in which there was the meeting of many hardships from the material angle, and the more joyous understanding of the purposes and ideals during those particular experiences - and the greater advancement. While, from the activities in the period of Socrates, we find that the reasoning influences and forces from the material angle becoming at times barriers rather than the greater expression of the spirituality. To give, though, something of the background of those influences as we find materially, - those activities were in such measures and manners that, from the father [Socrates], there was gained the ability, the power, the perception in reasoning as related to (from sources as may be said to be innate within) expressions of individuals in relationship to things, conditions, experiences and activities. Yet, from the mother, [Xantippe] there was such questioning, - because of the lack of material things and material conditions. Thus, from that combination, while it may not be said to have been a detrimental influence, the effect from same depends upon the manner in which the influences or forces are directed in relationship to things, conditions and experiences. One influence was for the greater or broader scope from the material angle, and the greater or broader scope from the standpoint of self-glorification, self-indulgence, self's activities for the moment rather than for the experiences which brought a comprehending or understanding of the relationships of those extremes as one to another. Thus we find the entity, Normaline, came under that influence. From the very sources or conditions of the experience, there was the greater influence exercised by or through the associations of the mother. Hence, while there was the desire and the greater expectancy for the greater comprehension of the tenets and truths, as well as the manner or way or form in which reasoning was indicated through the activities of the father, this was hindered from becoming manifested because of the pointing out as to what such influences brought into the experience, - as the hardships more and more of the material nature in the lives and experiences of those of that household. Thus, as we see, they were not necessarily retarding periods, but rather periods through which there were the attempts to measure up to those attainments which had been indicated in the experiences of the entity's sojourn in the "city in the hills," as well as through the Egyptian experience. As to the application of the influences or urges arising from the sojourn in the Grecian experience, then: There comes that necessary force for the quieting within, that the abilities for reasoning powers may be enabled to see the opposites, or the different phases or angles from which there may be an approach to the questions, - whether these be as to relationships, things, conditions, emotions, or general influences. Through the quieting within self, the greater powers arise from the very emanation or the spirit of good itself, to give the greater expression to the influence from within. To give an outline of same, - we find that the entity was of the Grecian type, dark, not fully developed, owing to the hardships as indicated in the experiences; and one fearful oft of the tirades, either from the mother or from the influences or experiences as brought about. Thus the entity was one ALWAYS in wonderment throughout the experience. And yet, with the periods when there were the mournings, and yet rejoicings, from the death of the father, the entity then made greater expansions by the influences or groups through which the associations were with individuals that led away from the environment. Thus there has been brought to the experience in the present a desire for the greater or closer relationships of what may be called the genealogical influence of an individual; and yet keeping self aloof from same - though a wonderment about same throughout the present experience. Ready for questions. (Q) How may I use the reasoning power from that period for the greatest good, and for my greatest development? (A) As just indicated, by quieting the self from within. As those experiences arise in which the questionings come, listen, - and then turn to the within that there may arise from the deeper recesses of the inmost soul forces within self the answering and the understanding of such questions as may arise. For, so oft under such an influence individuals find themselves reasoning from without to such an extent as to cause madness or anger, and disturbing forces that become retrograding in the very influence or power of activity itself. (Q) Was I associated with Alexander the Great, now [little [ 1208 ]], and how? [1/09/37 Husband wrote: "[ 538 ] is crazy about Miss [ 288 ]'s little nephew, [ 1208 ]."] What are the urges to be met in the present, for our mutual development? (A) As a nurse, or as a caretaker, and governing a part of the educational forces as became a part of the influence under the students of, or contemporaries with, the father of the entity. (Q) Was I closely associated with Xenophon, and how? (now Uncle [ 2903 ])? (A) Rather knowing of, and depending upon the good offices of same through the relationships of the mother; for the mother was better acquainted with him than the entity itself, - but through those offices came much of the material blessings, as would be called. (Q) His companion, Airdarel, now [Aunt [ 760 ]]? (A) Again we find that there was more a knowledge of than a close association with that entity; more of what would be termed a visiting in the environment for the help or aid as the mother gave, and such as might be appreciatable [appreciable] from the very fact that the activities of the mother [Xantippe] were as the seamstress, or the director of the costumes for Airdarel. (Q) Have I had a Palestine incarnation? and what am I meeting in the present from same? (A) We do not find such as an influence in the present; being more of a vision of than an experience in that environment. (Q) Has there been a close connection in purpose and activity of my soul with that of [ 288 ] through other sojourns besides the Egyptian, when we were not physically in the earth at the same time? Please explain. (A) This is rather confusing in the manner or way of the questioning. The Egyptian sojourn, of course, was a great influence or force regarding the individual soul entities. A greater oneness of purpose was experienced in the activities in the "city in the hills and in the plains." As to activities through sojourns NOT in the earth, there's the natural attraction as would be for souls that had been a part of an individual entity [ 294 ] through the material manifestations. Thus these were rather close in the union of purpose and activities through experiences other than in the earth's sojourn. (Q) What has caused the feeling of having had an experience at some time in Palestine? (A) The influences or forces that overshadowed the activities through those experiences; because of the union of purpose in these two individuals just named [[ 538 ] and [ 288 ]], in their activity or vision over, or influencing of those activities of individuals, see? [See 288-45 , Par. 16-A, 17-A and 294-192.] For they became then what might be termed as guardian angels. See, these are the conditions - study this, that you may perfectly understand: The sojourn of a soul-entity other than in materiality often influences or bears weight with individuals within the material plane, - as an odor, a scent, an emotion, a wave, a wind upon the activities. Such are termed or called by some guardian angels, or influences that would promote activities for weal or for woe. THUS does the association of individuals at times become as an influence in the activities of individuals through particular periods or experiences. Thus, when there is a description of that period, or an emotion that arises from such influences, or a knowledge of conditions at such a period, there is then the wave of emotion that would seem to connect or associate with that period. Yet such emotions dissipate when it comes to INDIVIDUAL associations, though there is an awareness of the influence or force of same. For, as may be seen here, the individual entity overshadowed the activities of Andrew [ 341 ] through the Palestine experience, in the very influence or force of the closer associations, and the seeing or visioning of same. Thus we find the emotions in which there arises very close associations, as has been indicated from the Egyptian sojourn also; not always as just son and mother, but closer associations in a realm of knowledge, or a realm of understanding, or realm of indifference, - for these are one Twin souls when they are turned in the same direction - as ye understand.
