Text: Precision high frequency radio components (wave guides, etc. . .) will have a core of copper and a very thin (sometimes only a few molecules thick -- depending on the specs of the component) coating of gold becuase as the frequency of an electromagnetic signal increase, it is more and more confined to the surfaces of the metal component channeling it. These are often referred to as "skin-effects".
