SCALE

Text: From: ch.greinacher@t-online.de.geentroep (Christian Greinacher) To: MMD Postings Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2000 22:45:53 +0100 Subject: Ariston (Herophon) 24-Note Organette Scale David Snelling asked for the Herophon scale and in MMD 000718 he summarized answers to this question coming from "my friend", from "Treasures" and from "Ingmar Krause" (Hi Ingmar, I hope you are well). I compared these different answers with what I have filed in my archive and what I have successfully used in multiple restorations of Aristons. I can tell you that column 2, "my friend", is absolutely correct. To avoid any misunderstanding, here is the Ariston scale once again: A, B, D, E, A, B, C#, D, E, F#, G#, A, B, C#, D, D#, E, F#, G, G#, A, B, C#, D. One has to keep in mind that not all Aristons are tuned the same pitch, i.e., the scale as shown above should be transposed up or down according to the individual instrument. I do not know whether the Ariston and the Herophon do have exactly the same scale (I don't have a Herophon), but I know that the scale of the 24-note Phoenix differs from the scale of the 24-note Ariston!
