RESIN
Text: A gum, the viscid exudation of certain trees, chiefly of the fir tribe, which is obtained in large quantities by cutting away part of the bark, a vessel being placed below to catch the gum as it exudes. When purified and prepared it is used to rub over the hair of a bow, the surface of which it renders rough and so enables it to "grip" the string.
