Text: The 19th Hebrew letter, Qoph (Q), means literally the back of the head. Hieroglyphically Qoph has been represented by an axe, a sharp incisive weapon. Alchemists attach importance to the meaning of this letter in connection with energy manifesting in manual dexterity and accomplishing the work of materialization of hitherto volatile substances. Related to Qoph we find qopha, which means to thicken or congeal.
