Peterson, Alan W.

Text: "Airglow events visible to the naked eye." Two visible airglow ripples were observed, traveling at about 91 m/s, with crest-to-crest wavelengths of about 16 km, at about 90 km altitude. Possible correlation with lunar high tide in the atmosphere. Possibly related to anomalous nuclear flashes picked up by Vela satellites in September 1979 (visible) and 1980 (infrared, preceded by a high-altitude ionospheric wave). Applied Optics. 18(20), Oct. 15, 1979. P. 3390-3393.
