Text: (1) A chord is said to be in its original position when the groundnote is in the bass, in other positions when the relative arrangement of the component notes is changed. (2) The position of a chord is the same as the disposition of its parts. A close position is close harmony; an open position open harmony. (3) A position, on a violin or other string instrument, is to use the fingers otherwise than in their normal place.
