Text: "Mr. Newman's fantastic machine," Skeptical article regarding Joe Newman's purported free energy device in Lucedale, Mississippi. Newman's theory postulates a class of spinning particles that flow from the north pole of a magnet to its south pole. Machine purportedly converts these particles to energy, recharging the batteries. His suit against the U.S. Patent Office is scheduled for a court hearing on 25 June, 1984. Newman's theory appears to model scalar spin of vacuum flowing from an above-ambient intensity scalar spin peak in one pole of a magnet to a below-ambient intensity scalar spin trough at the other pole. This represents a locally curved spacetime, which could conceivably be tapped between peak and trough to produce energy, in accord with general relativity.
