New Scientist

Text: "Italians discover earth throb." The planet earth throbs regularly every 12 sidereal hours. The pulsations have been recorded for over a year. The amplitudes are about 100 times larger than those that are expected from gravity waves, so planetary pulsations are blamed. An extraterrestrial origin is possible, although no one knows what sort of cosmic force could make our planet throb with such precise timing. Possibly induced by scalar waves (free A-dot) due to the earth's rotation in the phi-dot radiation from the sun. New Scientist. 99(1377), Sept. 29, 1983. p. 913.
