NINTH, Chord of the Major
Text: A chord formed by a combination of thirds starting with the dominant or fifth of the scale, called by some writers the "added ninth", because it consists of a chord of the dominant seventh, with the addition of the ninth; by others the "dominant ninth", because it occurs on a dominant bass. It is composed of five sounds, and, therefore has four inversions. Like all chords of the ninth, in it inversions, the root or ground-note is seldom heard. Minor Ninth 32:15 Major Ninth 9:4
