METZILLOTH, METZILLTHAIM, TZELTZELIM
Text: [Heb.] Thesewords are rendered in our version as cymbals, except in Zech. xiv. 20, where they are translated "bells of the horses," which is substantially correct, as little cymbals were formerly used in the trappings of horses. The cymbals used by the Hebrews were probably similar in form to those of the ancient Egyptians. They were found in the tomb of a certain musician-priest named Ankhape, lyng close to his side. They are very small compared to modern instruments ofthe same class, being not more than five inches in diameter.
