Text: Acronym for Linear Variable Differential Transformer. A contacting displacement transducer consisting of a movable core and a stationary transformer. The core is attached to the part to be measured and the transformer is attached to a fixed reference. The most common application is casing expansion measurement where the core is attached to the casing and the transformer (LVDT housing) is attached to the machine foundation. Also used for valve position measurements.
