Text: The 12th Hebrew letter, Lamed (L), means literally an ox- goad, an instrument of chastisement intended to force an animal to do its full share of work should it at any time show signs of negligence. Lamech (vide Genesis IV, 18-24) is said to represent a complete personification of the qualities suggested by Lamed. Lamed represents the opening of Spring, the period when Pisces melts into Aries and the reign of the "2 Fishes" is, for that year, at an end.
