Present: Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis and Jeanette Fitch, Stenos. Born August 18, 1897, on a farm near Henry, South Dakota. Time and Place: Set bet. 10:30 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern War Time. Wash. D.C. TEXT GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces, giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited, in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them. EC: Quite a bit of change! Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [ 5259 ]. In giving the interpretations of the records, these we choose from same with the desire that this may prove a helpful experience for the entity. For, we have unusual abilities in this entity, dependent upon how the entity may use same as to whether these become hindrances in the material and mental life, or whether they grow to be useful for enlightening and helpful experiences for others. As we find, this is an entity little influenced from astrological urges as ordinarily termed, because of certain positions of the planets or zodiac, but rather from the consciousness of the entity from experiences in the earth's plane, as related to those experiences of the entity as a soul-entity in other realms of consciousness than the material plane. Thus, we find an entity who has been given unusual abilities, especially in the realm of the fields of mysticism, occult or psychic science; science and psychic here indicating or meaning of the soul of the entity, not an influence other than that of the higher or the subliminal or superconscious, not the unconscious or subconscious self but the overconscious. Thus those abilities in these directions should be guided by, prompted by spiritual aspirations and not by imagination or of that activity as of wishful thinking on the part of the entity or by the desire of those whom the entity might aid. The entity then should study the lines especially of hands, of the shape of hands, of the shape of fingers, of all forms which pertains to same, as we shall see why through those particular periods of sojourn of the entity. But if the entity allows its own consciousness to be the prompting, and unless that prompting is free from spiritual understanding from the higher sources, or that source from which all life, help, aid, immortality, forgiveness, blessings come, unless it is guided through those and not of self alone, do not undertake same; though the prompting must be within self. Use the hands, the lines, the fingers and formations then, merely as signs or symbols, not as of prompting of self. As to the urges from the astrological aspects, not that these were those under which the entity was born, we find Uranus, Venus, and Venus in Uranus in not too benevolent a manner. For the entity might have married before it was 20 and been very happy. It should never marry now. These are well. And Arcturus! For the entity has gone out and returned, purposefully. These should be, then, the latent and manifested urges. As indicated, do not listen to voices, or rappings outside of self; do NOT use incense or music or automatic writing, for too many may desire to use this entity. Do interpret from that which may be gained from these: Exodus 19:5; Deuteronomy 30; St. John 14, 15. These interpret within self; apply them in self. Analyze hands, yes. Use this as a means for help to others. As to the manifestations latent from the sojourns in the earth, these have been quite varied, quite a great number of them. Only a few may be given as to apply in the urges as a portion of the experience of the entity in the present. Before this we find the entity was among those who were of the early groups who journeyed from the eastern portion of the land to almost the areas to where the entity found consciousness in the present experience, with one Eric, called the Red. The entity was among that group, and thus a man, or in the opposite sex. Thus in the present, the peculiar feeling toward sex and men, and as to how the entity can see through them and what they are thinking almost. It's because you were one, not because you're so wise. These are the urges. The entity was then in the name of Esten, and of those groups who eventually settled in, or for a time in, portions of what is now Wisconsin. Thus we find from its activities and its study with the medicine men of that particular area and period, places look familiar, faces appear familiar to the entity. Not that those who are not familiar are to be forgotten. For nothing happens by chance. There may be opportunities for thee, not only to help others, but to be helped by others. And then when an entity attains to the realm of the physical consciousness, such as these may bear fruit in thy life, in thy associations with others. Before that we find the entity was in the English land during those periods when there were the activities from the daughter of Hezekiah, the king, whose activities were cut short and then prolonged by Nebuchadnezzar. There was the founding of those activities in the English land in and about those places where the stones were set up as the alters. These were to represent the tabernacle. These were enlarged upon and these were those experiences of the entity, and thus all forms of mysticism, all forms of occult science, occult influences were a portion of the activity; as the holy of holies, the ephod, Urim and Thummim; all of these were parts of the entity's experience. The entity then was in the present sex, in the name Judith. The entity guided the interpreting of the worship in the forms which set up discarding blood sacrifice for those as of fruits, yet blood by those that were of another form of same in its activities. Thus relationships which were and are a part of man's experience became abhorrent to the entity in its present period of development. Before that we find the entity was in the Persian and Arabian land when there were the activities in the "city in the hills and plains." The entity then was a sand-reader, or a student of what is called in the present day the astrological influences. Then it was from the influences upon individuals or upon times, upon things. The entity was then in the name Slanen. In the experience the entity gained through those closer associations with the leader in that period in the "city in the hills" of Uhjltd, and those who were helpers from the Grecian land. Thus the entity became the one who might be called the soothsayer, or that one to nurse through conversation those in the hospitals there. These brought the entity great understanding, and thus may the entity in the present interpret much in character, characteristics, but don't attempt to foretell. Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land during those periods when there were those who came into the Egyptian land from other lands, for the interpreting of the law which was being demonstrated or applied in the Temple of Sacrifice and Temple Beautiful. The entity was then a princess in the Golden Land or in what is now Indo-China. The entity, as Seute, brought its groups of people for study in the Temple Beautiful and remained in the Egyptian land to become one of those who were to interpret the activities of individuals to send them out to other lands. The activities of the entity brought great help to others. As to the abilities of the entity, then: First, find self in those directions taken and given in Exodus 19:5; Deuteronomy 30; St. John 14 and 15 particularly. And then use as the model, as the symbol, the lines of the hand, to interpret for individuals their idiosyncrasies, their shortcomings, their abilities and such, but do NOT prognosticate. Keep level, don't talk too much, do talk sufficiently to know where you are at all times. I ask for the reading for myself more to show her that I'm not asking her to do anything I wouldn't go through myself... I want the life readings to see why certain obstacles appear in my life and my sister's life that did not appear so overwhelming to the rest of the family, and as a check on some pet theories of mine, as to past lives. This desire to know led me to study psychology, in which I have an M.A...but the answers are still elusive. Perhaps this seems like idle curiosity to you..." 11/26/43 Letter: "...You will be the means of a very real service to me. Knowing that one makes his own limitations, I am not looking for a miracle exactly, but for light on what has been in darkness, and why. If in return, any of my knowledge or a correlation of my life as I have known it, with your findings, will be of use to you for your files, you will be very welcome to it..." 6/02/44 Questions submitted previous to reading, in addition to those asked in the reading: "(1) Why should I dream the words, 'the debt is paid', since when I've felt freed as from a burden? In 1928, in a dream, I saw a tall, dark figure, hooded and cloaked watching me from the foot of my bed, bending slightly toward me in an impersonal way as I looked at it and told myself, 'Wake up, you fool; there's nothing there.' (2) Now, that dream frightened me greatly. Why? (3) What makes that instant feeling of kinship at chance sight of strangers, perhaps never to be seen again, yet never forgotten? (4) What unfortunate tendencies of mine, caused my mother to fear, as long as she lived, that I would go crazy? (5) Am I overcoming them? If not, how can I do so? (6) Am I right in having turned my back on marriage, since in prospect, it seemed like imprisonment? REPORTS 6/26/44 Letter: "Since reading the report of my June 8 life reading...and pondering what must have been deleted, I begin to see dimly what a stupendous task you have to perform, not only in giving the readings, but in deciding what is wise for the entity to have access to later after you have the records. My heartfelt thanks... My first reaction was one of annoyed disappointment. What, that little bit, about 15 minutes' worth, after that full hour's examination, of which I was keenly aware. And why no mention of the experience printed as 5048-1 , bulletin of June 10, describing a typesetter for Poor Richard's Almanac, a good arguer? That shoe fitted me so perfectly, I at once put it on, especially as it proved again that 'there is nothing new under the sun', as I had thought when a hunch led me to learn the printing trade as an 'out' for my difficulties at that time. Another point not quite cleared up is the 'why' of those 2 great waves of force and heat, which I took to be anger, coming from you at 10:55 and about 11:20, as described in my letter of 6/21 to A.R.E. There is a suggestion of that annoyance in your answer to my first question, where you state: 'If you keep on demanding, you will keep on having to face the truth.' Is it not then, good to face the truth, or is it just my past misguided efforts to do so? For your Association's motto is: 'Man's search for truth is his search for God'. Perhaps what you meant was my bumping up against considerable adverse karma in this life, as I can surmise from all those past experiences of lives devoted to the occult, particularly the Druid Judith, if the Druids were indeed as bloody as a friend tells me. Though I have done considerable analyzing of palms for friends over the years, that does not seem to be indicated as the best future means of self-expression; it is rather along lines of having my consciousness expanded, somewhat in the manner described in 'The Road I Know' by Stewart Edward White... May I say that I was dumbfounded by your statement that marriage before 20 for me would have been very happy, having always been confident that marriage was not to be a part of this life; even as a child, getting much pleasure out of the song 'In the Gloaming' and 'Love's Old Sweet Song', though filled with and a part of frustration and resentment. I don't like your statement that I have 'peculiar ideas about men and sex', considering myself perfectly normal, and subscribing to Charles Kingsley's philosophy in 'The Water Babies' (a prime favorite in books): 'Keep your eye single and your heart clean, and you will learn to walk alone without needing any man to teach you.' It is true that I can see through them, even to reading the exact wording of thought at rare times; but that has been rather disturbing than pleasant..." 7/20/44 Letter to EC: "Your religion is lifelong, fixed; mine is so new and undeveloped that only within the past 6 months have I searched consistently for God; that is, since the books of Emmet Fox unlocked the mysteries of the Bible... At the office all the night of the day I received the reading (I work nights), in the back of my mind was the query: If EC said my stars showed the possibility of happy marriage before 20, someone of my liking, all unrecognized, must have been available - who? Someone near my own age, with tremendous enthusiasm, sensitivity and capacity for suffering, well versed in misery and unhappiness, and physically tall and strong. Who? No one said memory. Next morning a blaring radio in the apartment over mine woke me, just as I was saying in amazement, 'D.A. that's the answer. I remember then, while unseen cats snarled and fought outside my window, a redheaded boy in district school. At 6, we had sat at the same double seat, read from the same first reader. Our paths parted at 8, when I went to the village school; touched briefly again at 18, I the teacher in the home district, D. struggling for a few wintry weeks in the 7th grade; then no more contact ever. And it is well. Our marriage would have been on the level of the symbolical cats fighting outside. Years afterward, on my enquiry, nobody knew what had become of D... He had run away at 21, when his mother finally told him who he was - the bastard of [...], respectable father of a large family and pillar of the Methodist church. That had been the last straw, what with the jeers of his stepfather, who, in drink, enjoyed reminding the boy that he had no right to the name of [...]. No more straining into the dim past for understanding and wisdom. Thus, a direct result of that reading has been to lay the old ghosts that were trying to use the past's blood-rusted key. For this, I deeply thank you; also for your advice 'first find self in those directions taken,' from which I infer that your superconscious mind affirmed that I am on the right track, at the same time warning 'keep level; don't talk too much, yet talk enough to know where you are at all times.'". 9/26/49 Letter: "I do believe in reincarnation of the soul. It is, in my opinion, an explanation of the process of spiritual evolution, and I believe in evolution. It seems to me that the Bible verse, Psalms 139:16, implies the existence of reincarnation. Karma, to me, is the law of cause and effect, a law that can be wiped out by appeal to the higher law of absolute spiritual truth. Christ or karma, but not both. I have not in any respect consciously changed my vocation, thoughts or actions toward others as a result of my life reading. I do have a new and different concept as to the purpose of my life as a result of my life reading. Vocation: type of work seems unimportant. The importance to me, consists in doing whatever I do to the best of my ability; in other words, considering my work as God's work." 8/60 GD's note: Miss [ 5259 ] has remained active in A.R.E. to this date, cooperating in every way.
