GAUSS, MAGNETIC FLUX DENSITY

Text: # German mathematician who developed the theory of numbers and who applied mathematics to electricity and magnetism and astronomy and geodesy (1777-1855) # noun: a unit of magnetic flux density equal to 1 maxwell per square centimeter The gauss, abbreviated as G, is the cgs unit of magnetic induction (B), named after the German mathematician and physicist Carl Friedrich Gauss. One gauss is defined as one maxwell per square centimeter. For many years prior to 1932 the term gauss was used to designate that unit of magnetic field intensity which is now known as the oersted.
