Text: 07/18/04 The ancient Egyptian Sothic velocity 1461, for instance, was a marvel in it's simplicity. It is earth's orbital velocity. It is calculated in this manner: The Egyptians recognized {365.25 days in a year} .. 24 hours / day .. 60 minutes / hour .. and 360 degrees in a circle .. this means that we are using THEIR system! jb} We'll derive the Sothic velocity number, starting with the number of minutes per year. There are {365.25 x 24 x 60} = 525960 minutes per year. ... Translating this .. it takes the earth {one year} or 525960 minutes to circle the sun! When we divide {525960 minutes} by {360 degrees in earth's orbital circle } we get 1461 minutes for the earth to travel one degree around the sun {which is the Sothic velocity}! There being 1440 minutes per day {60 x 24} .. we discover that the earth moves 1.015 degrees per day by dividing {1461 by 1440}. Any school science class could plot the earth's position from any start point using this Sothic system. For instance, There are 120.25 days from Jan 1 to May 1 .. so the earth will move 122 degrees in that time {120.25 days x 1.015 degrees = ~ 122 degrees}. jb
