DIFFERENTIAL EXPANSION
Text: The measurement of the axial position of the rotor with respect to the machine casing at the opposite end of the machine from the thrust bearing. Changes in axial rotor position relative to the casing axial clearances on this end of the machine can be the result of thermal expansion during start-up and shutdown. The measurement is typically made with a proximity probe transducer mounted to the machine casing. The measurement is usually incorporated as part of a TSI system.
