It is influenced by magnetic fields because the oxygen molecule has two unpaired electrons, so that it actually has a small magnetic moment of its own. This is in contrast to ferromagnetism, which pertains to the magnetic properties of substances like iron, which show magnetism on a larger scale. That definition seems misleading to me.
