CROTALUM

Text: A rattle, or clapper, used sometimes to mark the rhythm of dancing, in the worship of Cybele. They were geenrally made of wood, having a loose piece hinged about midway, so that, when shaken in the hand a clattering noise was produced. Instruments of this kind were in use among the ancient Egyptians.
