Text: Strings of silk, wire or gut, covered with a fine wire by means of a machine, by a process technically termed string-spinning. Covered strings are used for pienofortes, violins, violoncellos, guitars, etc. the wirecovering, by adding weights and strength tothestring, makes it slower of vibration, while, on the other hand, it is more elastic than an uncovered string of the same diameter.
