CASING EXPANSION
Text: A measurement of the axial position of the machine casing relative to a fixed reference, usually the foundation. The measurement is typically made with an LVDT installed on the foundation at the opposite end of the machine from the point where the casing is attached to the foundation. Changes in casing axial position can be the result of thermal expansion of the casing during start-up and shutdown. The measurement is usually incorporated as part of a TSI system.
