CANON
Text: A rule ‹ a term applied to the measurement of the ratios of intervals by means of the monochord, hence the system of Pythagoras was called the canon of Pythagoras; that of Euclid, the canon of Euclid. Hence, too, the science of calculating musical intervals is called canonik. Sectio canonis (Lat.), a division of a string, or monochord, formed by a moveable bridge or frets.
