CALORIE

Text: Two different calorie units are used by scientists. The calorie used by medical science is a small heat uit. It equals the heat required to raise the temperature of one gram of water one degree celsius (C). The calorie used by engineering science is a large heat unit. It is equal to the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one kilogram (2.2 lbs.) of water one degree C. In the SI system it is recommended that the Joule uit of energy be used in place of the calorie.
