Text: "Simple experiment illustrating the properties of waves in a refractive medium." The reason that the phase velocity in a medium is different from c is a consequence of the fact that the superposition of the incident and radiated wave by the electrons in the medium yields a different wavelength inside the medium. Describes a simple experiment using a laser, a diffraction grating, and a glass aquarium to show this effect. American Journal of Physics. 52(1), Jan. 1984. p. 77.
