BLEVE

Text: Do you have any information about making use of the BLEVE (boiling liqiud expanding vapour) explosion? BLEVE is a very violent explosion of, well, expanding vapours from boiling (pressurized) liquids like liquefied natural gas (LNG, cf. that explosion disaster on a camping ground in Spain a few years back, 1990?) or pressurized steam. Apparently more energy is released in a BLEVE explosion than is thermodynamically possible. A friend of mine told me, that a physics professor, who claimed "all thermodynamical systems are researched and explained" had to admit, when challenged, that BLEVE explosions were an exception to this. There were (apparently promising) small-scale trial experiments here in Switzerland about two years ago by members of SAFE to test the potential of harnessing BLEVE energies, but I never heard any results, though I contacted a member of the experimental group (They are probably too suspicious of outsiders
