AZOR
Text: This word which occurs in the Book of Psalms and elsewhere, is variously rendered according to the view which is taken of its association with nebel. In Psalms xxxiii., 2, "Sing unto him with a nebel and azor" some drop the "and" and understand azor as qualifying nebel, making the compound word to signify a "ten-stringed nebel" (psalterium decem chordarum). Whether the azor was a distinct instrument, or not, it is impossible to say, although Engel, Fetis, and some other authors have so considered it, and have ventured to assign to it a definite number of strings.
