ALIGNMENT
Text: A condition whereby the axes of machine components are either colinear, parallel, or perpendicular, according to design requirements. A measurement of the relative position of a machine component with respect to another. Relative alignment measurements can be made from bearing to bearing, rotor to rotor, rotor to bearing, bearing to casing, casing to foundation, casing to piping, etc. Various alignment requirements utilize different techniques of cold and hot machine measurement including optical, mechanical (dial indicators), and electronic (proximity probes).
