Project Shiva .... or "Shiva Star" is the capacitor bank powersupply the USAF developed for many different experiments.. one of whichwas "Marauder", it was to create small compact plasma torroidsand project them at high speeds..... The massive discharge of "ShivaStar" also produced massive magnetic fields that made the hangersiron beams bend upon discharge in that they had to reinforce them.... Itcreated a new project to investigate the possibility of magnetic sheildslike in star trek...

Here is some info I have....

Compact toroid formation, compression, and aceleration
Phys. Fluids B, Vol.5, No.8, (1993) 2938
Abstract:
Research on forming, compressing, and accelerating milligram-rangecompact toroids using a meter diameter, two-stage, puffed gas, magneticfield embedded coaxial plasma gun is described. The compact toroids thatare studied are similar to spheromaks, but they are threaded by an innerconductor. This research effort, named MARAUDER (magnetically acceleratedring to achieve ultra-high directed energy and radiation), is not amagnetic confinement fusion program like most spheromak efforts. Rather, the ultimate goal of the present program is to compress toroids to highmass density and magnetic field intensity, and to accelerate the toroidsto high speed. There are a variety of applications for compressed, accelerated toroids including fast opening switches, x-radiationproduction, ratio frequency (rf) compression, as well as charge-neutralion beam and internal confinement fusion studies. Experiments performedto date to form and accelerate toroids have been diagnosed with magneticprobe arrays, laser interferometry, time and space resolved opticalspectroscopy, and fast photography. Parts of the experiment have beendesigned by, and experimental results are interpreted with, the help oftwo dimensional (2-D), time-dependent magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) numericalsimulations. When not driven by a second discharge, the toroids relax toa Woltjer-taylor equilibrium state that compares favorably to the resultsof 2-D equilibrium calculations and to 2-D time-dependent MHDsimulations. Current, voltage, and magnetic probe data from toroids thatare driven by an acceleration discharge are compared to 2-D MHD and tocircuit solver / slug model predictions. Results suggest that compacttoroids are formed in 7-15 =83=CAsec, and can be accelerated intact withmaterial species the same as injected gas species and entrained mass=81=861/2 the injected mass.

Motion of a Compact Toroid inside a Cylindrical Flux Conserver
PHYSICS REVIEW LETTERS 45 (1980) 1264
Abstract:
Compact toroids have been generated in a cylindrical resistive fluxconserver. They are observed to rotate so that their major axis isperpendicular to the axis of the flux conserver. Subsequently they remainstationary and their magnetic fields decay with a time constant of about100=83=CAs. This is the first observation of the predicted tipping modetoroidal fields and are initially prolate in shape.
