Hi all
Regarding hydrogen as a fuel in an ICE (Internal Combustion Engine)

The Garrett patent and demonstration:

www.keelynet.com/energy/garrett.htm

My 2 cents for what it's worth:
I don't think enough research has been done in this area. I've heard
numerous voices knocking the idea for one reason or another. There have
been many people when confronted with this idea immediately whip out a
textbook, point and say well that can't work because.. and proceed to
quote from the BOOK, they feel superior and stand back to see what waves
they create. They never actually question things and try it themselves. I
personally would rather see pictures from a REAL test that show
destroyed cylinder walls, valves etc due to embrittlement caused by
hydrogen. And also an indication how long the engine ran before this
became a problem. But the one thing I have never seen is true research
data for others to expand on. Like:

Engine type: 1.5 HP Briggs & Stratton
Modifications:..........

Test: Details
Test: Results with pictures and data
Test: Summary with proposed modifications for next test

etc...

So what IF a standard ICE CAN'T run hydrogen/oxygen? I mean it WAS
designed to burn gasoline wasn't it? That's why if you want to burn
other fuels there are modifications to be made to allow this. Just look
at your dual fuel gasoline/propane engines. So what I'm saying is if it
won't use hydrogen as a fuel (sorry Don, for calling hydrogen a fuel!)
modify the engine until it will, unless we're looking for a quick fix.

Maybe if we had this type of research data, we could move ahead in this
area working as team.

Hmmm, wonder if JL Naudin has done any research in this area?

Regards,

Jim Springer
