Because of the new server hosting the KeelyNet list and based on
discussions with Dan about uploading images and attachments to the
database, he assured me it wouldn't be a problem with space.
As a result of this, I removed the file size and attachment
limitations in the guidelines.
Now, I personally don't think it is a good idea to send in large files
which should more appropriately be privately forwarded to those
interested.
Nothing is more time consuming than picking up your mail and getting a
host of unsolicited emails with attachments that take forever to
download. I just want to get the gist of the messages and move on.
Same for capturing an entire page from a URL that is currently online
and which only would need a short section to clarify what was being
said.
To my understanding this is making people read material that they
might not be interested in by shoving it in their mailbox.
At least with limits, what is posted to the 150+ people on the list
will be emails containing only a synopses of the information hopefully
with additional links that let people find out more if they are so
inclined.
So, as a matter of courtesy, I think people appreciate informative
posts with urls, relevant excertps and an offer of additional info
should they be interested.
Perhaps I should add that to the Guidelines as netiquette?
