Groove-reading and simultaneous talk

Sorry for the clumsy subject title - couldn't think of any other way
to put it.

Does anyone know what happened to a couple of guys who were in
the headlines a few years back? One of them could "read" the
grooves in records and name the record and who played on it. I
think he specialised in classical music. The other one was even
more intriguing to me. He would stand next to a member of the
audience and ask them questions and then speak simultaneously
with them, with the same answer - and laugh - in perfect time. It
was fascinating to watch and I cannot believe that this was
anything other than a rare talent. I don't think that it could have
been a trick - so how was it done?

When we wish to speak, how do we instruct our voices to perform?
I wondered if this guy somehow picked up the mental instruction
and shared it? Could this be used for other physical actions such
as walking? Could this talent be taught? Could it be used for
teaching victims of paralysis to overcome their disability?

Or was it all just a clever illusion?
