Snip.....
An interesting article. But an easier modern technique is to use a =
computer to generate the appropriate wave shapes and frequency mix. In =
this way the brain's various active frequencies (Delta, Theta, Alpha and =
Beta) can be stimulated, and/or "entrained" directly, to assist the mind =
in establishing a particular conscious purpose.=20
For those interested, there is also a very simple, but effective piece =
of downloadable shareware called "Brain Wave Generator". It can be found =
at:=20
The program has some of its own inbuilt routines, or if you wish, you =
can very easily design and record one for your own purpose. With a =
little knowledge and careful thought, some extremely effective =
experimental frequency combinations and binaural beat sequences are =
possible. And these can have a distinct influence on the conscious =
awareness of the user. Of passing interest, certain combinations of the =
best experimental frequencies and beats bear a remarkable similarity to =
the sound of deep Tibetan temple bells.
=20
It's also significant to note that some of the most effective =
"entrainment" frequencies, relate very closely to those observed in the =
low frequency electromagnetic spectrum of Shumann resonances. And the =
most effective binaural mixing frequencies to generate them, appear to =
have a direct harmonic relationship!

In one of its web pages, bwgen.com notes that:
"............The easiest way of applying stimulus to the brain is via =
ears. Other senses could be used as well, and vision is actually used =
quite often (often in addition to hearing). However, humans cannot hear =
sounds low enough to be useful for brain stimulation, so special =
techniques must be used. One such special technique used is called =
binaural beats.............etc."=20
These low frequency "difference tones" are produced (by the computer =
program) using
headphones. Two slightly different frequencies are sent to each ear. The =
low frequency mixing then occurs directly, within the auditory mechanism =
of the brain itself.=20
=20
To get the correct internal mixing, I think simple 'stereo' is =
necessary, rather than any form of phased, three dimensional sound.

Stuart Rae
