An ingenious idea Sean but there is a lot of other evidence which
seems to indicate the use of weights. Also how was he able to
make the machine perform in either direction as requested? If
the wheel contained a disc of iron, I believe that it would have
been impossible to lift, for the translocation demonstrations.

Having said that there may be some possibilities in your
suggestion worth looking at, even if Orffyreus' machine did not
utilise such a design.
