Ken: In the origional trial I ran the tank dry having made only a
small quantity (approx 300ml) of mixture. When the mixture separated,
the water went to the bottom and the petrol/soap combo floated on top
thus the mower either ran on H20 or the emulsion <g>..
It is handy that water and alcohol mix so readily, it would by a
shame to have to add soap to my whiskey and water!
Tom: I was discussing this topic with a friend of mine at work, he
was talking about the problem of consensation inside fuel tanks
particularly on boats. Petrol and water simply do not mix so if
you get water being drawn from the bottom of the tank, your engine
simply will not run. My friend gave me a tip about this, if your
tank does not have a drain to remove the water, you can add
metholated spirits to the fuel, apparently this will mix with the
water making a mixture sufficently flamable to start the engine. This
will run very roughly while it draws the spirit/water mixture from the
bottom of the tank but it will clear the system. I have not tried
this but it sounds plausable and I trust the guy.
thanks for your replies
