I just followed the link given on hydrogen, and then followed the FAQ
link there. I have a question, about the answer given for the first
question:
_______________
Question: How much Hydrogen does it take to equal 1 gallon of gasoline?

Answer: 1 gallon of gasoline (3.78 liters) is equal to 10.8 cubic meters
of Hydrogen gas (standard temperature and pressure) or 3.58 gallons of
liquid Hydrogen (super cooled). (source: 'The Hydrogen World View'
references page)

My question is: since gasoline is a 'hydrocarbon' and the main reason
that we burn gasoline is to extract the energy from the hydrogen
bundeled therein; how do they figure that one gallon of gas can "equal"
3.5 gallons of liquid hydrogen?
