Hi, Michelle and all:
Robert Monroe ("Jouney's Out of the Body") studied the effects of sound for
years. He was (now deceased) one of the early pioneers of 'binaural beat'
technology. Brainwave entrainment is a major result of this method.
For example, a tone of , let's say 120 hz is routed (via headphones) to the
left ear; then another tone, say 128 hz, is routed to the right. Well, your
brain 'hears' the difference between the two--which is 8 hz. As your brain
hears this 8 hz tone, it becomes entrained to that frequency; this is call a
frequency-following-response (or, FFR).
There are many high-tech meditation devices, called light/sound machines, that
utilize this concept. (CAUTION, Though, the lights aspect is not reccomended
for those with epilepsy or any type of seizure disorder).
