Dear Michelle, Don and all

I had the opportunity to see the Heartlink Units in action not so long ago
when Dan paid us a visit in Singapore. Check out
www.danwinter.com/heartlink and www.danwinter.com/protocol for more details
and interesting sample data collected.

Heartlink Set-up
----------------

The heartlink units consist of a hardware (box) interface and its unique
software programme. It allows 2 person's EKG to be sampled or 1 person's
EKG and EEG to be sampled and then displayed on the screen in real time. It
has the potential of having additional probes added to the hardware to
capture an additional source of input (more of this later). In very
simple terms, traditional biofeedback systems would collect the raw EEG
data, see the missing bandwidths (eg alpha or beta, etc bandwidths) and
attempt to 'fill-in' the gaps with the use of interactive games to train
the user to elicit those missing brain frequencies. The heartlink software
goes a few steps further. It takes the raw data and performs a FFT (fast
fourier transform) on it and gives a 1st FFT Plot called EKG harmonics (in
Dan's web site). Then it performs another FFT on this 1st Plot to give the
2nd FFT called the EKG coherence (in Dan's web site). As I understand it,
FFT takes into consideration all the various frequencies ie the ratios of
one frequency to another and therefore takes into consideration the whole
bandwidth of brain frequencies. It's similar to balancing the minerals in
the soil - one has to take into consideration the ratios of the various
minerals to one another before any remineralization programme can have a
long lasting positive effect on compaction and microbial activity.
Another analogy is with fractal image compression technology (eg see
www.iterated.com - Prof Michael Burnsley's work). There is software
available now which allows large bits of information (eg satellite
pictures) to be reduced to a few fractal equations, and then re-expanded
back to its near original form (very much like a zip file idea). What the
heartlink is doing, in one sense is to attempt to capture and show
graphically the essence of a 'person's EKG' or state of coherence and then
allow that person to learn to elicit this state at will.

I am still learning more about the FFT. Any one out there who could provide
some input regards to the FFT applied in this context would be greatly
appreciated!

What does all this data mean?
-----------------------------

Preliminary data shows that EKG coherence at 'golden mean' and points
associated with the golden mean (see sample plots in Dan's web site)
indicates a state of coherence/compassion/open giving and receiving but
much more work/data needs to be done to confirm these findings.

Many therapist attempt to change brain wave activity (to influence
behaviour eg alcoholism, anti-social behaviour, etc) but what may be a more
productive route is to 'train' the heart to be coherent and then go on with
the brain, thus literally linking the heart and brain as one. This is not
a romantic idea as results obtained from clinical setting have been very
encouraging compared to traditional biofeedback techniques and approaches..
See Marty Wuttke's work - http://www.linktoweb.com/heal/welcome.htm for
details (2000 alcoholics treated with very high success rate over a 2 year
period)

A similar comment can be made with patients who shop around for different
methods/techniques, etc for their health problems. A suggestion here would
be if they first attempt to learn how to be more 'coherent' then they will
be much more receptive to whatever therapy/herb, etc they may use.

Another use for the heartlink if additional probes are introduced (eg Phil
Callahan's hemp probes). If this set-up is allowed, then it is possible to
measure objectively coherence of a person's internal states (heart and
brain) and coherence with the environment (eg tree, a living-space). So it
is very possible for someone with this set-up to be his own feng-shui
(geomancy) expert. The person will be able to know the 'best' (relative to
himself/herself) spot to plant their tree, the 'best' spot/orientation to
sleep, etc. At these places, the coherence will be seen internally and
externally. Anything (object/herb/space, etc) that throws this off is
suggested not to be biologically compatible (or incoherent) with the
person.

The heartlink unit also allows for the Eartheat 2000 project to become a
reality - for hundreds of users from different parts of the world to be
hooked up and resonant as one heart at the same time!

So one does not really have to plough through and understand all of Dan's
work to appreciate the possible appplications and implications of this
physical device. Insights into sacred geometry have a real application in
this real world and I am beginning to see the fruits of this endeavour.

I invite all members to check out Dan's web-site. Any feedback/comments
will be appreciated!

Cheers
