The only lights I've heard about in South America were usually a kind
of moonstone sitting on top of a column in the middle of a village.
They were supposed to glow at night and light up the entire village.
I did a search on glowing rocks to see if there was anything about
them, but didn't find a thing, however, the perpetual flames might
have something to do with it;

Note, there are several lamp*.htm documents. An odd property of
hydrogen as quoted from the document;
http://www.keelynet.com/energy/garrett.htm
"Hydrogen for lighting
Lighting via the use of hydrogen can be accomplished by the phenomenon
of CONDOLUMINESCENCE, a cold process. A phosphor is spread on the
inside of a tube similar to the conventional fluorescent lamp. Upon
coming in contact with the phosphor, small amounts of hydrogen combine
with the oxygen in the air to excite bright luminescence in the
phosphor. (Is this the secret of the mysterious "perpetual lamps" as
found in ancient tombs?)"
Then again, there are the claims of one of the supposed airship
inventors saying he owned an 'osmium' mine. Osmium puts off an
extremely pure white light of great intensity when powered with heavy
current.
