Inertia ?

Just a question :

Consider a heavy wheel spinning free say at 3000 rpm.

I have noted that if you apply a short duration load to the wheel, the rpm will
be linear reduced during the load but will regain a little rpm when the load is
disconnected.

If the rotation is maintained by using a motor and applying short current
pulses to the stator, we could maintain the 3000 rpm regime.

Now we could apply the load also in short pulses, between the driving pulses.

My guess is that with correct timming, the energy spent to maintain the wheel
spinning at 3000 rpm could be smaller than the energy extracted by the load.

Any opinions ?
