Well I know one way to do it, First you really need a fluid that (as most
are) if it is at double the density the energy is much more than double,
what you do is you compress in short bursts but violent bursts (sound) what
happens is that the greater pressure is not noticed on the plunger till the
wave bounces back so you can compress with sound and with a lot less
energy, one way that is a bit less efficient but just as good is to pump
sound through water, with the plunger or piston locked so it can only go in
one direction (or just use a valve, is that not what those people were
doing with that high amplitude sound device for compression?) and push on
the plunger with a gentle (well a lot less than you would otherwise need to
use) force, the sound needs to be of a similar pressure to the fluid (but
that is not hard), this effects is also seen in electricity where you can
pump charge in till the wave is reflected, the voltage will be double, this
is how a few FE electronic devices work as until the wave is reflected the
resistance of the open circuit will not be felt so charge will be pumped
through.
