EFAS - Encephalic Frequency Amplitude Scanner
EFAS stands for encephalic frequency amplitude scanner. The device
measures the brain's microvoltage amplitude bilaterally at several (12)
frequencies simultaneously. It might be described as an ELF (extremely
low frequency 3 - 30hz) spectrum analyzer. This is a prototype machine
and costs around $10,000.00 (it carries the entire development cost)
another could be built now for around $3,000.00.
EFAS was built with accuracy being the utmost priority. Many of the
components had to be measured to four significant figures. It can now be
used to test the performance of other machines, and of course
gives a research grade display of brain activity.
Various type of brain analyzing instruments exist,electroencephalographs
(eeg), nuclear magnetic resonance (nmr) scanners, coaxial tomographic
(cat) scanners, positron emission tomograph (PET) scan, oxygen
metabolism imagers, etc. However, none of these machines are designed to
show the state of the mind. The best way to do that currently is by
being able to watch the spectrum of the brain's electrical activity.
EFAS was designed and built with that specific goal in mind.
Brain frequency are generally divided into four major areas, delta .5 -
4.0hz, theta 4 - 7hz, alpha 7 - 13hz, and beta 13 - 30hz. The delta
region is associated with coma, deep sleep and with paranormal activity.
Healers and psychics often show powerful burst of energy in lower ranges
including delta. Theta is the level of awareness at which pain greatly
reduces, and is associated with deep relaxation, paranormal phenomena
are also associated with this range. Alpha rhythms are the most commonly
produced waves during normal to relaxed activity, and are associated
with imagination and fantasy. Beta waves are associated with extreme
mental activity, concentration, and panic states.
One needs to be careful about assumptions of the exact function of a
given frequency. For instance Zen meditation instead of reducing brain
frequency as is the case with Buddhist style, produces extremely
powerful beta bursts imbedded in normal or relaxed (alpha) background.
Everyone tested demonstrated some activity across the entire spectrum.
It is suspected that the brain is processing in many frequencies,
and that it shifts and blends them continuously.
You are constantly transmitting and receiving in ELF (extremely low
frequencies). Dr. Ross Adey, one of the world's foremost authorities on
neuroscience and biophysics, has conducted tests which found that
the 60 cycle electrical power we use pollutes the "ether". When you
watch EFAS you will notice a great deal of power being produced in the
highest frequencies. Those are induced voltages due to the 60 cycle
background. Your brain is acting like an antenna, and literally being
induced to produce voltage at those frequencies. This was an unexpected
observation which helped demonstrate the accuracy of the EFAS.
The effect of those induced voltages is debated, but there is a
discussion that they increase the chance of contracting cancer.
We have found that states of lowered brain frequency and specifically
theta bursts are associated with heightened psychic awareness. This is a
bold statement and can only be verified by individual experience.
Usually for conditioning one person observes the EFAS while the other
"meditates".
You probably experience your mind talking to itself, this is consistent
with beta, and alpha activity, and normal brain function. Your brain has
an area in the left frontal lobe which generates your life story and is
that part of your mind which speaks to itself.
One of the most challenging questions of current neuroscience is how
does the mind unify itself, this is called the "binding problem". Our
minds are formed by contradictory, conflicting, and competing ideas
and thoughts.
It is possible to cease the inner dialog, and exist in internal silence.
This may be a little difficult at first, but you will be surprised how
quickly your brain becomes conditioned. The additional reinforcement
available by using EFAS only increases the effect. For our experiments,
when the observer sees the subject producing a powerful theta burst he
rings a small bell. Any sound can be used, but we suggest that you
avoid words. Speech seems to engage the part of the mind which uses the
higher frequencies, and tends to throw the subject out of theta. A soft
sound is preferable. A continuous but variable amplitude sound might be
very effective also.
It is probably educational for an observer to watch a subject sleep to
become familiar with the patterns formed. During conditioning, the
subject should guard against falling asleep as the early target
frequencies are used by the body for pain control and during
unconsciousness. Extremely rhythmic bursts in theta are associated with
early stages of sleep, and the observer may want to confirm the subject
is awake if the characteristic pattern is being seen.
As you progress, you become very able to produce the theta frequencies
at will. Once you feel you have a grip on the technique then attempt
lower end theta frequencies. Finally attempt to condition for delta
bursts. We feel the mind wants to learn these skills and that they come
very naturally. Our society of problem solving in pursuit of the dollar
does not usually value the qualities associated with the low
frequencies. We suggest an empty mind can listen. Perhaps it can reach
out, effecting the Universe in ways we would find difficult to explain
with current physics. We have found that the initial theta
conditioning begins to open the mind in unexpected way. You be the
judge.
EFAS uses twin 290A isolation amplifier to insure that the subject is
completely safe from electric shock, including any possibly induced
internally or by external power surge, including lightning strikes.
Caution: One should not have any device attached to one's head during a
lightning storm.
To use EFAS, first make sure the head band you use fits snugly. When you
place an electrode make sure it directly touches the scalp.
Electroconductive gel will help, but the electrode lead must touch the
skin. EFAS is divided into two channels, one for the left and one for
the right. The electrode plug mid line, on top, nearest the screen is
the left channel, oddly enough it should be connected to the left side
of the head. The plug in back is the right channel. The red wire
electrodes should be placed to the rear of the head, the whites in
front. The black wire electrodes are grounds and should be attached to
the side of the head. Use plenty of gel and make sure the red and white
electrodes are arranged so as to be on opposite ends of the
hemisphere they are meant to monitor. If the EFAS is on during the
procedure you will see a marked difference in signal between attached
and unattached condition. If you do not, then check all the electrode
connections. The higher frequencies should show a amplitude drop once
the machine is connected to the subject.
States of mind are dramatically evident with EFAS, but require a
training period to interpret.Electroencephalographs are read in the same
way. It is a bit of an art, or acquired skill. EFAS is superbly
accurate, depend on what you see. EFAS is a unique and effective mind
monitoring tool.

SUBJECT: Technical Review of EFAS
Dear Mr Jones:
Allow me to take this opportunity to thank you for your time during my
recent visit. It was a pleasure to talk with someone of your obvious
technical expertise, and to view some of the projects you are currently
pursuing. My evaluation of EFAS follows:
The EFAS was presented as a low frequency spectrum analyzer with the
ability to display brain frequencies on a multi-channel bar graph
display. The unit was housed in a compact enclosure with left
and right displays which were arrayed to present twelve discreet
frequencies arranged vertically from 2.0 Hz. to 27.0 Hz. for a total of
24 channels.
Leads from the unit terminate on the patient with solid silver
electrodes. The electrodes set consist of standard ground, plus and
minus differential inputs.
Due to the high gain of the unit, an input attenuator was used to reduce
the input voltage so that a conventional frequency generator would run
the unit. A TEK 335 Oscilloscope, and a Hewlett Packard frequency
counter were used to measure input sensitivity and exact frequency.
The unit was shown to have a flat frequency response and a smooth
display with signal change. Using the generator to spot check several
points of voltage and frequency, the unit performed per the
specifications listed in the technical description.
The gain was verified to be more than enough to use as a biological
monitor for EEG and ECG applications.
In summary and with reference to the specifications in the technical
description, EFAS meets and exceeds specification in a pleasing and well
manner way. The unit was found to be easy to use and intuitive to
interpret. It is well suited to the applications of brain frequency
monitoring
