Sounds like you've discovered the Quantum level, scientists have found that
perhaps when we view things on a Quantum scale, like trying to watch the
electrons spinning around the shell of atoms; that maybe the atom only
looks like it does to us because....We are viewing it at that moment.
It seems that perception can change a quantum event.

I've read about tests using computers to do simple tasks like flipping a
coin on a computer sreen, when no ones watching the odds are very flat
50/50.
Tho when a person watches and mentally tries to make it come up heads or
tails more, the odds get very very screwy. There is no way to effect the
odds of the test other than on a mental level.

Thus perhaps shapeschanging (native American legends) and Alchemy are
effecting atoms on a molecular level perhaps. Mind over matter as it were.
