I believe you refer to a piezo material called Kaynar film...it is
claimed to be able to sense or transduce from flat DC up to millions of
cps...it also responds to pressure...I have a very small sample I got
years ago...you can hook it to a scope and talk to it, it works as a
microphone....I haven't checked it as a speaker...

As far as I know, it can't detect light per se....so I think light is way
beyond its frequency range....
