Measles deaths: Govt suspends five employees of Health Dept
Aurangabad (PTI): Health Minister Vimal Mundada on Sunday ordered suspension of five employees of the Health Department who are responsible for negligence while the vaccines were being given to the children, in which four of them died yesterday.
The Health Minister today visited the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and declared that five of the employees found guilty are suspended.
According to details, after the death of four children in the Waghola village of Phulambri tehsil, Health Department appointed a three-member committee to inquire into the measles death case.
The committee of doctors included D C Deshmukh (pediatrician), A P Kulkarni (preventive and social medicines) and Bindu Rajan, a pathologist.
After visiting the children in ward 25, Mundada called on a meeting in the cabin of the Dean of the medical college.
Health director, deputy director, dean, district vaccination officer and three members of the inquiry committee were called and the matter discussed. The suspended employees include Primary Health Officer (PHO) Dr Pramod Alhat and Dr N Singlekar of the Jategaon, assistant nurse M K Sapkal, health worker R T Nikam and helper-nurse BiKharat.
The Health Minister said that supply of the vaccines made by the Serum Institute of Pune has been stopped with immediate effect. She said that from 5,000 vaccines one hundred were sent to Jategaon centre. She said that the samples of urine, stool, blood and viscera were sent to the laboratory in Pune and the report is awaited soon.
She also declared that if the Pune company is found guilty action will be taken against it. She also said that she will discuss the matter of giving financial assistance to the victims' families after discussing it with the chief minister.
