Quotes
Attempts by independent researchers to obtain the underlying data sets from the original authors in the epidemiological studies touted by the CDC and other vaccine apologists (except the 2004 Ip et al. study) as supporting the claims of “no link” have been repeatedly rebuffed. Interestingly, a November 2007 paper by Desoto and Hitlan, entitled Blood Levels of Mercury Are Related to a Diagnosis of Autism: A Reanalysis of an Important Data Set, independently reviewed the basis data from the previously published Ip et al. epidemiology study reporting no evidence of a link between the blood levels of mercury and autism. The reanalysis, with which the authors of the original epidemiological article agreed, found that the original article’s inaccurate conclusions were based on a significant calculation error and a less-than-appropriate choice of t-tail statistical test.
Thus, no independent analysis has been able to confirm the validity, or lack thereof, of the findings reported in the studies upon which the 2004 IOM committee relied. In the case of the key U.S. study by Verstraeten et al., CDC officials have claimed that the original data sets have been “lost.” Key realities about autism, vaccines, vaccine-injury compensation, Thimerosal, and autism-related research----Gary S. BOYD HALEY comments: IOM To Hold Workshop on Autism (& not vaccines)
This is the old ploy of "looking were it ain't" if you don't want to find something.  I have encouraged parents of autistic children in the USA to get urinary porphyrin profiles done to determine if their child shows signs of mercury toxicity.  It is almost 100% that these children, at least those that have reported back to me, are moderate to extremely mercury toxic with regards to this clinical testing procedure.  Just where would children less than 7 years of age obtain enough mercury to inhibit their porphyrin pathways?  So the IOM suggests looking everywhere except where the most logical place would be, in the vaccines given to these children that contained thimerosal.  The IOM ought to be ashamed of itself, if not for doing something scientifically dishonest,  then for being so inept as to think vaccine exclusion from consideration of exclusion for autism causation would be accepted by the American public.  Most importantly, while they are looking everywhere else these children lose time before an acceptable treatment for mercury toxicity can be developed---and at least a significant number of autistic children are definitely mercury toxic.  Boyd Haley

I was the first to announce the "autism epidemic", in 1995, and I pointed out in that article that excessive vaccines were a plausible cause of the epidemic.  As you know, an enormous amount of clinical laboratory research (as opposed to epidemiological research), has been accumulated since that time, supporting my position. (I did not know then that the vaccines contained mercury, although I had been collecting data since 1967 from the mothers of autistic children, on any dental work they may have had during their pregnancy.)  The evidence is now overwhelming, despite the misinformation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Institute of Medicine. The (Pretending to) Combat Autism Act  By Bernard Rimland

[Letter Feb 2008] Mercury, Vaccines, And Autism: One Controversy, Much Propaganda---Michael F. Wagnitz In the article, "Mercury, Vaccines, and Autism: One Controversy, Three Histories" the author, while trying to sound impartial, misrepresents several facts in order to support his conclusions. He starts by citing the many findings of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) without mentioning that the IOM was commissioned by the CDC to issue a report on "Vaccines and Autism." The CDC approves, mandates, promotes, and distributes vaccines. He does not mention that every member of the IOM committee had ties to the vaccine program (1). There were no independent toxicologists on this committee. One would think this would be important when considering the safety of mercury in vaccines.

"A number of clinical laboratory studies demonstrate that vaccines may cause chronic damage to the G.I. tract, immune system, brain, and other organs. Several such studies have been reported in past issues of the ARRI. Wakefield, Sabra, Singh, O'Leary and Kawashima are among the authors whose work documents lingering vaccine effect on children on the autistic spectrum, compared to normal controls. The IOM report pays little heed to this evidence, instead focusing attention on several deeply flawed epidemiological studies."---Dr Rimland MD

The CDC asked the IOM (Institute of Medicine) to investigate the autismthimerosal connection, so the IOM met and reviewed all of the literature, including the studies that I showed you. A couple of the studies weren’t out yet, including the Burbacher study. The IOM knew these studies were about to come out but decided not to wait. Their conclusion was that based on the epidemiological studies showing no relationship, no further studies should be done regarding thimerosal and autism. From a purely scientific point of view, does that make sense? We have a lot of biological evidence about mercury toxicity, we have evidence that it can cause autistic-like behavior, we have evidence that shows the damage it can cause in the brain cells, we have evidence that shows that autistic children have trouble with mercury in particular--but they announced that no further research was necessary in this area, and funding would not be forthcoming. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions. AUTISM: THE EVOLUTION OF A DISEASE by Bryan Jepson, MD

The United States' Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] have evidence that an exposure to 62.5 micrograms of mercury in the first three months of life raised a child's risk of developing autism almost three-fold. THIMEROSAL, a mercury-based vaccine preservative, is found in various vaccines. Waters and Kraus and nine other law firms have filed law suits citing neurological damage caused by THIMEROSAL. Waters and Kraus claim that the real report with the damaging data on THIMEROSAL was withheld from scientific scrutiny, and particularly from the Institute of Medicine [IOM] which recently reviewed the data on the preservative. It seems that the author of a cover-up CDC study reviewed by IOM is now employed by GlaxoSmithKline. This drug company, among others, has manufactured vaccines with THIMEROSAL.
It is noteworthy that medical researchers are quick to recognize exposure to second hand cigarette smoke as at least a contributing cause of sudden infant death syndrome [SIDS] yet refuse to consider even the remotest possibility that significant exposure to mercury, not to mention aluminum and formaldehyde, found in most child hood vaccines, may also be a contributing factor to SIDS.
