[EVANS was one of the neutral "expert witnesses" expensively (£250,000) hired by Prof Deborah Lipstadt and her publisher to testify as to Mr Irving's worth as an historian during the libel action against her. After spending 20 man-years searching Mr Irving's thirty works, Evans and his team wrote a report charging that the author had made 19 errors (e.g., he had misread a five-letter word in Himmler's handwriting). In a remarkably hostile judgment, Mr Justice Gray reduced even that figure to twelve.]
Quotes by Evans
“Visiting the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Wahsington, D.C.,
for example, I was struck by its marginalization of any other victims apart from
the Jews, to the extent that it presented photographs of dead bodies in camps
such as Buchenwald or Dauchau as dead Jewish bodies, when in fact relatively few
Jewish prisoners were held there.”---Richard J. Evans,
Lying About Hitler: History, Holocaust, and the David Irving Trial (Basic
Book, 2001), p. 261.

[Review by Samuel Crowell] Lying About Hitler: History, Holocaust, and the David Irving Trial by Richard J. Evans On the whole, the book contributes little that is new or interesting to anyone who followed the Irving trial with any degree of attention. It is obvious that Richard Evans has an animus against David Irving, but such animus could not sustain his expert report nor does it sustain this much shorter book. Furthermore, the title, Lying about Hitler, is a false indication of the book’s scope: it is not about Hitler at all, but rather David Irving. Perhaps “Lying about David Irving” would be a better indication of the book’s contents.
