The film Conspiracy of Silence was due to be aired in the United States on the Discovery Channel in May of 1994 and then just before airtime, it was pulled. Sometime later John DeCamp received a copy in the mail and he made it available to me. The BBC was ordered to destroy all copies. Yet, a BBC employee, who was so shocked at this story and the censorship, made a copy and got it out to John DeCamp. It is said that the BBC was paid $500,000 not to air the documentary. Finally the BBC narrator mentions pollution. He says it “may” be a factor, but more study is needed. May? Furthermore, he asks, “Is pollution really a cause or is it merely a trigger?” He seems to be leaning toward “trigger,” although by now I am having trouble seeing the difference. The media moment has come upon me full force. I begin talking back at my radio, posing such cogent and measured comments as “You jackass BBC flunky announcer!”
    Media apologists like to point out that journalists face severe constraints of time and space, and must necessarily reduce complex realities into brief reports; hence, issues are conflated, and omissions and oversights are inevitable. But this BBC report went on for some ten minutes, quite a long time by newscast standards. There would have been ample opportunity to say something about how the use of automobiles has skyrocketed throughout the entire world, causing severe damage to air quality especially in cities. There would have been enough time to mention how the destruction of rain forests and the dramatic increase in industrial emissions have contributed to an alarming CO2 buildup and a commensurate decline in the atmosphere's oxygen content. The BBC could have told us how the oil cartels have kept us hooked on fossil fuel, while refusing to develop nonpolluting, inexpensive tidal, wind, thermal, and solar energy systems.
    But mainstream media bosses would dismiss such revelations as “editorializing” and ideologically motivated. Instead, this BBC report chose to be “balanced” and “objective” by blaming the victims, their genetic predispositions, their antiseptic lifestyles, and their inability to buy medications. During the Brighton smallpox outbreak (1950-51), the usual BBC encephalitis campaign opened with an anonymous doctor assuring the world, with authoritative emphasis, that "smallpox is the most infectious disease known to Man"! The BBC had evidently never heard of influenza. During the smallpox outbreak of 1961-2, on the other hand, we heard medical officers of health saying on the radio such things as, "After all, smallpox is not such a very infectious disease." It is indeed unfortunate, but hardly surprising, that so many people have been fooled into believing that animal experiments are vital to human health and medical progress, considering the massive propaganda campaign waged over the past few years by the public relations department of the vivisection industry through their lackeys in the media. This uncovered some surprising facts, such as the numerous prominent people within the BBC involved with the vivisection industry, such as Sir Walter Bodmer Hon Vice President of the Research Defence Society, and Sir Christopher Bland, Chairman of the BBC’s Board of Governors and Chairman of Life Sciences International, one of whose companies, Forma, being the manufacturer of “small animal isolators” and “animal bedding disposal cabinets”.  BAVA
