Lobbying and other political spending by the pharmaceutical industry
includes:
-Washington lobbying, 2003: $85 million.
-Donations to national party committees and presidential and congressional
candidates by industry employees, 2003-04: at least $11.5 million, roughly
two-thirds to Republicans.
-Top recipients of industry political giving this election cycle: President
Bush, at least $870,000; Democratic challenger John Kerry, about $350,000.
-Companies whose employees have given the most to federal candidates and
party committees this election season: Pfizer, at least $1.1 million;
GlaxoSmithKline, $765,545; Johnson & Johnson, $584,985. All sent roughly
two-thirds to Republicans.
